The Bangladesh women’s under-19 cricket team notched an impressive start in the Women’s U-19 tri-nation T20 series, securing a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar. Afia Asima’s unbeaten 27 runs off 29 balls, featuring three fours, guided Bangladesh to chase down the 96-run target with ease, securing the win with nine balls to spare.
Although the hosts faced a challenging situation at 35 for three within nine overs during their pursuit, a resilient partnership between Afia and Mosammat Eva, contributing 39 runs for the fourth wicket, stabilized the innings. Mosammat Eva’s departure, scoring 27 off 36 balls with two fours, did little to deter Afia, who anchored the team to a comfortable victory.
In the earlier innings, Sri Lanka managed to score 95 for nine in 20 overs after being put into bat. The Tigresses displayed tight bowling, with Nishita Akter and Rabeya standing out with three wickets each. Rashmi Nethranjali top-scored for Sri Lanka with 21 runs.
Looking ahead, the Sri Lanka under-19 team aims for a comeback as they face Pakistan in their upcoming match on Thursday. The opening match showcased promising performances and sets the stage for an exciting continuation of the tri-nation T20 series.
