Atiqul Islam, aged 32, a fashion conscious and highly disciplined textile engineer employed at a buying house of the capital’s Mirpur was another victim who died an unnatural death on the night of July 19. He returned home from work at about 2:00 PM and parked his motorcycle in front of his house, then took a walk across the Mirpur 10 intersection to see the fuss outside.
Sitting in the car, Atiqul saw a fight between the activists and the agents on the distance. In a few seconds he was shot in the head and fell down dead on the spot Queensland report it.
Atiqul currently lived in Mirpur with his wife, Tamanna, and their one-and-a-half-year old daughter – Farista. He has to contribute a portion to his old parents’ maintenance, who resides in Patuakhali.
Tamanna Akhter, Atiqul’s wife said, “My husband was not into any political activities at all…He was the bread winner of my family, we have a daughter, and also my in laws used to live with us.”
That same night, the body of Atiqul was taken back to the family house in Panpatti village, Galachipa upazila, of Patuakhali district. He was buried the very next day in an open space which they had turned into a cemetery in their compound at mid-noon.
During the interaction of this correspondent with the village home last week, one could see how Atiqul’s mother Mumtaz Begum was weeping out loud. The father of the deceased, Shah Alam Howladar said, “Atiqul was my youngest son, He was a hard working man, he tutored himself to support his education and now he is dead, who will support me now, how shall we survive without him, let there be a fair trial so that we can bring the murderer to book ”.
